Addazio is Your New OC

Steve Addazio has been named as the new offensive coordinator of the Gators. He previously has been an offensive coordinator at Indiana and was a candidate for the Syracuse head coaching job this offseason. He has been the offensive line coach in his four seasons at Florida under Urban Meyer.

Addazio was not the trendy name all the armchair athletic directors were picking, as that honor goes to receivers coach Billy Gonzalez. The next question then is if Gonzalez leaves to become offensive coordinator for Dan Mullen at Mississippi State, as that rumor has been circulating for a couple of weeks now. For the record though, I can’t find any evidence of such a move being possible in anything more reputable than random message board posters throwing things against the wall to see if they stick, so take it with a grain of salt.

The blurb from reminds everyone that offensive game planning and play calling are and have been a group effort, and that the other offensive assistants will continue to be involved. It remains to be seen who will end up the quarterbacks coach.

Good choice by Coach Meyer in promoting Steve Addazio to OC; I figured he’d prpmote from within the organization if he didn’t hire somebody from the outside who was familiar with the spread offense. Now he needs to hire somebody who wiill be an effective quarterback coach to complete his staff, but I don’t see him doing this until afterr the NC game.

Agreed. Promoting from within seems like the best course of action because of the highly collaborative nature of the game planning. It’s the best way to preserve continuity, and continuity is good for an offense that’s led the SEC in scoring two consecutive years.

I also think the new QB coach won’t come until after the BCSCG. The Gators aren’t hurting for QB recruits for the next couple years, and I haven’t seen anything about any of them wavering because of Mullen leaving.

Mullen Just hired some guy who was the offensive coordinator at a bunch of schools over the last several years, also do not be surprised if he does not call his own plays.

I would not be surprised if he waits until after Timmy is gone next year to hire a QB caoch and he does that himself.

This statement makes no sense at all – WHY wait until Tebow graduates next year to hire a QB coach? It’s highly unlikely that Coach Meyer will leave any assistant/position coaching slot vacant.
